Need Motivation?

You know that time around the middle to end of December where everyone is buzzing about the holidays (I LOVE CHRISTMAS) - then gearing up for the new year. You know this year felt different for me. I normally don’t have a New Years Resolution formally because I have always been decently consistent with my workouts, my healthy habits and my life.

BOYYYYYY was that not the case this year! When I tell you I had lost all motivation to show up at the gym (which is not like me at all). I was eating what I wanted, still relatively healthy because I do like to eat fruits and veggies - but getting to the gym was a daily battle.

I lost all motivation to go. Part of the reason was that some days, taking my toddler with me didn’t sound like a good time. The other part was just me, wanting to be at home with my family and soaking up all the time I could!

What I realized is that mentally that was not a great decision. Especially since going to the gym is my mommy time, my me time, and my social hour.

So this year I made a commitment to myself and a New Year New Me - get outta bed - take a shower - eat breakfast - get to the gym.

When you lack motivation, moving towards that goal is the first step. No matter how small, no matter how it might seem like nothing GREATER is happening, the small 1% is what will end up making the biggest difference.

I highly recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. One of my favorite quotes is this:

“if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done. Conversely, if you get 1 percent worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero. What starts as a small win or a minor setback accumulates into something much more.” - James Clear Atomic Habits

How crazy is that!? 1% better everyday. That can be based on small choices, small eating habits, small little choices that will compound into something incredible. Another great book that I have just started is The Power of One More by Ed Mylett. This book is in line with getting 1% better everyday and is giving me so much motivation to keep going. For me it’s getting to the gym because I will see results as long as I stay consistent! What is it for you? Is it creating small habits to start eating a little healthier? 1 Apple a day? 1 walk a day? Maybe it’s just making your bed every morning (another one of my 1% better goals). No matter how small it might seem to you, KNOW that it’s greater than what you think.

Sometimes it can be super hard trying to juggle being a mom, a wife and ME. But I have to remind myself that in order to be the best mom and wife I can be, I have to be the best ME, first.
